Jody Lukoki was a Congolese-Dutch football player who died on May 9, 2022. His cause of death has been defined as an assault.
Lukoki served the Netherlands at several different youth levels. He finished third with the U-19 squad at the 2012 Festival International ‘Espoirs’ in Toulon, France.
He had dual citizenship and could represent either the Netherlands or the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the senior level. Lukoki received his first call-up to the DR Congo squad for the match against Iraq on March 19, 2015, and earned his maiden cap in the game.
Lukoki joined Ajax’s youth divisions after playing for Young Boys Haarlem and VVA/Spartan. On January 19, 2011, he made his first-team debut in a 2–0 home win over Feyenoord, substituting Lorenzo Ebecilio in the 80th minute.

Jody Lukoki, a DR Congo international passed away at the age of 29. His cause of death has been defined as cardiac arrest. According to the Dutch daily Het Parool, Lukoki went into cardiac arrest in an Almere hospital after being attacked by family members during an altercation.
His death is being investigated by police. On Sunday, he rushed to the doctor with a headache and knee discomfort.
Doctors allegedly opted to surgically remove his leg, which had grown severely infected, but he went into a coma during the operation and died from a cardiac attack at around 6 a.m. on Monday.
Lukoki joined Amsterdam club Ajax as a young player in 2008 and advanced to the main team in January 2011. He won three Dutch domestic league titles with the club in three seasons before joining PEC Zwolle in 2014.
